The XXIII edition of the Isla de Lanzarote tournament is progressing successfully, which has resulted in the victories of the Tao teams over Playa Honda in the Cadet category (12-7); Tinajo over San Bartolomé (12-7) and the defeat of Tías against U.S. Yaiza (4-12).
The tournament is being led in the Senior category by the teams of San Bartolomé and Unión Sur Yaiza with six (6) points respectively. Likewise, Yaiza leads in the youth category with 6 points, while Tao does so in the Cadet category with 6 points.
In addition to the days lived around the fight, there was also the activity carried out in the Luis Montero arena in Haría, in a match played between selections of the best swordsmen of the region, forming the teams Lanzarote Reinforced and Rest of the Canary Islands to offer through friendly competition a tribute to the deceased Tony Martín Montelongo, better known as the "Pollo del Puerto", who died more than a year ago.
The tribute also consisted of attending a debate forum on the aforementioned athlete, the day before the fight, a floral offering taken to the Haría cemetery, hours before the central event.
The unveiling of the life-size bronze sculpture that will be located on a well-known street in the municipality of Haría was postponed. The organizers of the event, which is the Canarian Wrestling Federation, announced that this act was delayed due to non-compliance with the delivery date, although, even so, a plaque was displayed in recognition of the brilliant work of the honoree.
