The third edition of the Yaiza Extremo Sur currently has a total of 320 athletes registered, a few hours before the close of registration. These are 110 more athletes than last year, and are now ready to compete.
The edition will feature the mountain bike (MTB) events of 58 and 35 kilometers on Saturday, August 6, while on Sunday the 7th the trail run modality will be held in distances of 30, 16 and 8 kilometers. The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, recalled this Tuesday at the official presentation of the event that "the Yaiza Extremo Sur was born in December 2020, becoming the first sporting event held in Lanzarote in the midst of the de-escalation process due to the pandemic, a fact that symbolizes the very effort of the organization and especially of the men and women who decide to compete enjoying the spectacular landscapes offered by the town of Yaiza, the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches and its surroundings."
From the Consistory they assure that sport "is an integrating party". "As such, the Yaiza City Council wanted to encourage the celebration more, offering the live performance of the musical group Sin Red Social that will perform on Saturday and Sunday after the tests in the same Plaza de La Alameda, the starting and finishing point for runners," they add.
"Sport is an extra motivation for the municipality, especially for young people who are the ones who register the most, and this year also with the joy that the high participation of children and adolescents imprints, which adds to the support that we give from the City Council to grassroots sport," said Óscar Noda.
The mayor thanked in advance the work of Cronoline, Yaiza Local Police, Yaiza Civil Protection, Club Triyaiza and all the volunteers committed to the development of the Yaiza Extremo Sur, as well as the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
For his part, Ángel Lago also praised the technical support of local athlete Albi Cedrés: "He advised and supervised us in all the trail routes as a prominent athlete and great champion that he is with regional, national and international status."
