The Lanzarote fighter Hecher Sosa, known in the world of mixed martial arts as El Guanche Warrior, was received with a warm ovation at the Lanzarote airport after fulfilling one of his greatest dreams: winning in the Dana White's Contender Series and securing his entry into the UFC.
Sosa prevailed by unanimous decision against the British Mackson Lee in a fight full of emotion, not only because of the magnitude of the sporting challenge, but also because of the personal circumstances surrounding him. Just two days before entering the octagon, the fighter lost his father, a tough news that he turned into strength to perform at the highest level.
During the fight, Sosa showed control, composure, and determination, which not only convinced the judges, but also Dana White himself, president of the UFC, who dedicated a special message to him assuring that his last name "will mean something one day" within the organization.
Upon his arrival on the island, the athlete was received with applause, hugs, and flags by family, friends, and dozens of citizens who came to celebrate the historic achievement. Among those present were also institutional representatives, such as the mayor of the city, the Sports Councilor of the Cabildo, and several councilors, who wanted to show their support for the athlete.
With this victory, Hecher Sosa not only opens a new stage in his professional career within the world elite of mixed martial arts, but also becomes a benchmark of overcoming and pride for Lanzarote.
