The Haría City Council will organize the first edition of the North Coast Crossing 'Lionel Morales' on November 7, a swimming event that it claims is "highly anticipated in the north", whose name is a tribute from the Council to the Olympic northern paratriathlete.

The crossing will consist of three races of different distances, one of 5,500, one of 3,200 and another of 1,500 meters. The results of the same will count towards the classification score for the Canary Islands Open Water Cup.

The mayoress of Haría, Chaxiraxi Niz, points out that this competition "has been a popular request in the north in recent times" and that, taking advantage of the fact that this event is new, "naming it after Lionel Morales has been a nod from the City Council to an athlete with numerous successes who has taken the name of Haría and Lanzarote around the world."

The Councilor for Sports, Alejandro Hernández, highlights "the effort made by the Corporation to be able to organize and host this crossing" and highlights the importance of Lionel Morales "as a sports figure" in the municipality, "helping to attract young northerners to these physical activities and demonstrating that, with work and perseverance, very great things can be achieved."

The City Council informs that the 5,500-meter race will start from the coast of Jameos del Agua, the 3,200-meter race will start from the Punta Mujeres dock, and the 1,500-meter race will start from the Arrieta dock. All three races will have the finish line at La Garita beach, in Arrieta.
