It was the eighth time that Club de Lucha Tao and Club de Lucha Unión Sur Yaiza had faced each other this season, and while those from Teguise were looking for their first title, the southerners were looking for a full sweep of titles for the season, with the dispute open in the Canary Islands Sports Discipline Committee over the winner of the DISA Government of the Canary Islands Second Category League, which has been resting in the showcases of Club de Lucha Tazacorte since last week.
The occasion required the fans of Canarian wrestling to come to Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez in Tías, not only to witness the Lanzarote Super Cup or the II Mamerto Cabrera Medina Challenge, but because the proceeds of the night would go this year to the Tinguafaya Association, which received the affection of our vernacular sport.
Marcos Correia knocked down Jean Pierre Moreno and made the first point for Ángel Lago's team, but however, the first chairs of Manuel Martín's team were more effective, scratching some important points in the initial fights to allow CL Tao to take the lead on the scoreboard.
With 2 to 4 for CL Tao, Unión Sur Yaiza tried to reduce the differences with the figure of Francis García "Curry", but however Acomar Elvira managed to give him the two fights and add another point for his team, who were gradually steering the title. Yonathan Machín knocked down Acaymo Bonilla and the southerners reduced the differences, but lost Marcos Correia as did Tao to Miguel Reyes, who got entangled in a slow and even fight that went nowhere. The two eliminated and 4 to 6 on the scoreboard.
Francis García "el negro" managed to leave the difference in one for the Teguise club, but it was only a mirage. Rubén Barrios and Cristo Betancort, who were still giving battle, knocked Yonathan Machín and Álvaro Torres out of combat, extending the difference to three for the verdillos, 5 to 8, who seemed to have the title on track and get the first of the season.
CL Tao, on the verge of the title
The fights were becoming eternal and while they encouraged the wrestlers to look for their rival, the warnings arrived for both teams. Thus, Francis García "el negro" and Agustín Mayor "Pollo del Callejón IV" were mutually eliminated by accumulation of warnings after a fight for each one. The duel between Óliver Rodríguez and Cristo Betancort was also slow, but on this occasion the youth from Teguise took the fight by eliminating the southerner.
In between, the figure of Diego Pérez appeared, a key man in the victory of the yellow team. The Highlight A of Unión Sur Yaiza found no opposition against Rubén Barrios, to whom he gave the two fights. It was a glimmer of hope for Ángel Lago's bench and the beginning of the problem for Manuel Martín's.
Diego Pérez made it 8 to 10 by giving the two fights to Juan Miguel Gil, Highlight C of CL Tao, but Alejandro Umpierrez again put land in between and left those of Teguie on the verge of the title by defeating Aarón Santana. The Highlight A of the southern team, who already had two knocked down, continued with his recital, although also with some misfortune of the rival. In his confrontation with David Cabrera he gave him the first with a very showy skill, but the bad fall of the Tao wrestler forced him to leave the Tías arena on a stretcher, with the applause of the respectable and the camaraderie that exists in this sport as in few, accompanying his rival to outside the sports venue, while the 9 to 11 went up on the scoreboard.
CL Tao had three wrestlers left standing, Alejandro Umpierrez, Alejandro Díaz "Pacoco" and Cristo Betancort. Against the first, the Yaiza wrestler was solvent and gave him the two in a row, almost without time to get tired. Against the second, the situation changed. Diego Pérez gave him the first and in the second he limited himself to living off the income, to equalize the fight of his rival and that the Tao's one fell eliminated after giving separated in the second.
Diego Pérez, the most valuable player of the final
Everything was played between Diego Pérez and Cristo Betancort with 11 to 11 on the scoreboard. US Yaiza came loaded with confidence after remontar the scoreboard and with a wrestler who did not acuaba the fatigue after having defeated five rivals. For its part, the doubts revolved in the head of those of Teguise, while their youth was put the gallons and faced the situation. But it could not be. Diego Pérez knocked him down practically without problems and, not only put the 12 to 11 on the scoreboard, but with the remontada put the last official title in play in the showcases of the southern team.
The Cabrera Medina family presented the trophies to the two teams and also to the most valuable wrestler of the final who, with six knocked down, could not be other than Diego Pérez. Bittersweet sensation for the Tao wrestlers, who had it close but were again on the shore, although nothing reprehensible for having given everything on the ground. However, US Yaiza celebrated the title while manteaban the MVP of the final with the chant of "where is Diego Pérez, Diego Pérez where is?".
US Yaiza, winner this year of the League, the Cup and the Super Cup, has been, without a doubt, the best team of the season in Lanzarote, pending what happens with the appeal made by the regional title of Second Category.
