The representation of the Canary Islands excelled in the Absolute Spanish Weightlifting Championship by winning ten medals in Salamanca, as reported yesterday by the Territorial Federation.
José Navarro from Arucas won three gold medals in the 85 kilogram (kg) category, proclaiming himself national champion with a total of 355 kg, thanks to lifting 160 kg in the snatch modality and 195 in the clean and jerk.
Navarro caressed the two Spanish records -165 kg in snatch and 200 kg in clean and jerk-, which he himself treasures.
In the same category, Armiche Arvelo won three silver medals, with 145 kg in snatch and 170 kg in clean and jerk, for a total of 315 kg.
José Abad could only reach bronze in the clean and jerk modality with 150 kg, a medal that is very good given the youth of the athlete - he will prepare for the European Sub'17 Championship-.
In the women's category, Magdalena Expósito took three bronze medals in the 48 kilogram category with 45 kg in snatch and 55 kg in clean and jerk -total of 100 kg-.
The performance of the Canarians Sergio Padilla, Jesús Darias, Miguel Rodríguez and Roberto Colmenárez also stood out, although their performance only caressed the podium.
