Coinciding with the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School, including cyberbullying, which is commemorated on the first Thursday of November each year by UNESCO, IES Costa Teguise has today resumed the training of its Big Brothers, an enriching project that yielded very positive results last year for the benefit of improving coexistence in schools.
After the first day held at the La Tegala Sociocultural Center in Haría, on this occasion the students and teachers involved traveled to the Costa Teguise Civic Center, also with the presence of the island director of Education of Lanzarote, Carmen Pellón, and the councilors of Education and Social Welfare of Teguise, Mar Boronat and Ana Nereida González, respectively, in addition to the management and coexistence team of the center.
The program of the day included mediation workshops and action against bullying, as well as talks on dependence on cell phones and social networks, ways to deal with grief or suicide prevention, among other issues of interest.
And the coexistence management team of IES Costa Teguise, together with IES Haría, promotes this training activity for students who voluntarily wish to acquire knowledge that positively impacts the resolution of conflicts, as well as the prevention of them, assuming a position of responsibility and mediation in this type of situation.
This is a valuable initiative that seeks to promote and facilitate positive coexistence among students, improve the school climate and an optimal adaptation of younger siblings to the center. To this end, the coexistence team has been gathering volunteers at different levels to create a small group of students who have a profile suitable to act as school mediators in the institute, with the ultimate goal of becoming Big Brothers.
