Two paths open up and are drawn on the horizon of Lanzarote's political life. One runs through transparency, honesty and humility; the other we saw reflected in the Cabildo during this legislature, turned into a permanent battlefield and where normality has been marked by mutual contempt.
With transparency, humility and honesty we address public institutions to solve the urgent needs of citizens. Needs that have to do with housing, health, education, dependency, social services and a long list, including the mundane consequences of the rains in Arrecife, with the automatic overflow of sewage flowing through the sewers.
With transparency, humility and honesty we address public institutions to address the urgent needs of the island's population. Therefore, it is essential to implement all the necessary mechanisms to move towards a truly sustainable and responsible model, focused on the major environmental problems we have. Issues that affect energy, water, transport, solid and liquid waste, but also the necessary recovery of agricultural spaces to minimize the extreme dependence we have on food from abroad.
We have to produce and eat healthy and sustainable food, grown and raised in these lands and captured in this sea. Recover the cereals and legumes that Lanzarote exported decades ago; as well as watermelons, melons, sweet potatoes and other products well adapted to the island's drought. With this we will also fight against climate change that we are experiencing. The practice of blaming other people and parties does not lead to solving the urgencies, nor does it open ways for a change of socio-economic model towards sustainability and responsibility that the islands and islets of Lanzarote have with the Earth, the only place where, for now, we can live.
Maximum respect for citizen and political diversity
In our government option, the citizens of La Graciosa and Lanzarote will have the doors of the Cabildo open. Really open and in every way, to present their most urgent needs and monitor the management that is developed and the result of the proposed solutions. All this must be undertaken with the utmost respect for citizen and political diversity, since the debate has to address the different visions to solve the urgencies and launch the change of socio-economic model.
We will value the maxim: 'Respect and Consensus in Work', without thinking that we are in possession of any truth, but assuming that there are different views on similar or even identical issues. With our eyes set on the needs and with the sole objective of attending to the serious urgencies that the citizens of the island have, we will manage the Island Council. There is an endless list of urgencies and needs that affect all possible areas, so it is urgent to start and work tirelessly.
The search for solutions is possible from transparency, humility and honesty, with the firm conviction of our capacity for work and confluence. With this and with the participation of all interested people and left-wing parties, we will move forward. That is why it is important to start now, to prevent the Cabildo from spending another four years focused on managing the most polluting and abusive business community on the island.
You have in your hands the possibility of being respectful people with the will of more than 10,000 voters who in the 2015 elections chose to exercise a political force for change. If we remain fragmented we are nothing, if we come together we will respect the will of the majority who want a real political change and aimed exclusively at addressing those two paths that I have drawn: immediately solve the citizens' urgencies and open the way for the change of socio-economic model of the island towards social sustainability and environmental responsibility.
A time of citizen joy for the coming years
In the decisions we make in the coming days, an exciting and challenging political cycle will open or we will stop that change, opting for the old policies that do not focus on the true purpose of public institutions.
At this time, in the process of primaries, I make a call to the people registered in Podemos to express their generosity and bet on a new model in political terms. A call for them to assume, immediately, the work that allows to give urgent solutions to the island's needs. I encourage you to deploy all our capabilities to open a time of joy and citizen smiles in the coming years. For all this to be possible, it is necessary that before 23:30 hs this Sunday, November 25, vote for the candidacy of Juntas Más Fuertes that I lead to the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
Many, many thanks.
María Antónia Perera, Nona.
Candidate for the presidency of the Cabildo de Lanzarote for Podemos
