Shame, indignation, pride

November 26 2014 (11:29 WET)

I feel great shame for belonging to a rich country that has serious problems with child malnutrition.

I feel ashamed to belong to a rich country, with several million unemployed, many of whom do not receive benefits to live with dignity.

I feel ashamed to belong to a rich country, where unfair evictions are carried out every day, while banks have countless empty homes.

I feel ashamed to belong to a rich country, where there are more and more poor people and inequality is increasing, for no reason other than injustice.

I feel ashamed to belong to a country with such a high degree of known corruption, and what I'll be around for if it all appears.

I feel indignation for belonging to a country where it is lucrative to be corrupt because there is a high degree of impunity, justice is not effective and the stolen money is not returned.

I feel indignation because, through opacity, politicians steal my money and pull my leg with the far-fetched explanations they give and the cosmetic transparency charades they adopt.

I feel indignation for belonging to a country where there are so many rich, unsympathetic people who do not pay taxes.

I feel indignation because the constitution is used for what is of interest and the rights of citizens have been forgotten.

I feel indignation because, existing, no measures are taken to solve these problems and the leaders deceive me and take me for a fool, always resorting to the same lies.

I feel proud to belong to a country where there are people like Teresa Romero or Miguel Pajares.

I feel proud to belong to a country where family unity partially cushions the problems we have.

I feel proud to belong to a country where there are supportive people, who give their money and their time selflessly, although I think that charity should never replace justice.

I feel proud to belong to a country where tides, platforms, NGOs, associations are formed... to jointly fight for our dignity.

I feel proud to belong to a country where there are people who have not resigned themselves, and are fighting and maintaining the illusion for things to change and improve.

I want to proudly raise a symbolic flag for all the people who fight, contributing their grain of sand, for a better and fairer world.
