Sadness, sorrow, shame, rage, indignation.

October 2 2017 (21:11 WEST)

Any of these feelings, and others, seem appropriate to express what I feel about the events that have occurred in Spain in recent days and, especially, what happened yesterday (October 1), regarding the issue of Catalonia.

I feel them for having politicians incapable of solving our coexistence problems, both at the national level and in the government of Catalonia, both representatives of the corrupt bourgeoisies on both sides. The former, because they only think of going to judges and public force. The latter, because they have chosen an unthinkable path in a democracy, however low-flying it may be, such as skipping the rule of law. None of them, in view of the facts, seems interested in yielding and reaching dialogues that can reach an acceptable solution to the conflict.

I also extend the responsibility to all the other political parties that, having possibilities, were not able to articulate an alternative majority to the current PP government, all acting out of selfish and short-term interests. Was this the new policy that was going to change things? The incompetence of our representatives does not remain in the high spheres, unfortunately it extends to all levels of the administration, where mediocrity abounds much more, sometimes absolute incompetence, than people of value.

I regret that certain Catalan left-wing leaders have followed the strategy of allying themselves with the corrupt high bourgeoisie, helping to create a confrontation and rupture in Catalan and Spanish society, which can most harm the working people. Assuming that Catalonia has the right to decide (I do not dare to pronounce on it), I do not know any country in the world whose independence has led to the creation of a happy Arcadia. All have copied the same model from which they claimed to be liberated, changing the power from one elite to another. If the two oppressors who bother us are the current neoliberal capitalism and its partner the state, and both are going to continue, (although the second is in the form of a republic), where is that slogan of the banners that says "Vote to be free" going to be carried out? Perhaps they will get a more comfortable prison if their economic level allows it.

And, perhaps, all this is because we are already in the era of immediacy, where the objectives must be achieved at the rate of a tweet, at the moment, and none of us want to pick stones for as long as necessary. We forget so many people who gave everything to achieve rights that they did not enjoy and that we all have today.

Secondly, I am ashamed of the actions of the forces of public order. I do not hold the members of the police or civil guard responsible for this, who acted on orders, (unless someone individually exceeded), but to those responsible for the operational design. I say the same of the mossos, some of its members showed that those who have the legal monopoly of force do not always use it in accordance with the legal system. To the comparative test of their passive action yesterday and those carried out on occasions such as evictions, the eviction of the Plaza de Cataluña of 15M, or the beating given to a businessman I refer. I suppose that, in these last occasions, they would first ask all of them for their card and, when they verified that they were not Catalans, then they gave them a good beating.

What to say also of those who, wrapped in flags, have become fanatics who have unloaded their hatred against each other, demonstrating their lack of brain mass.

And, as has always happened, the politicians have played their flutes, with chotis or sardanas, all of them with scores loaded with post-truth (of all life, pure and hard lies), which is the favorite music of those who decide what we have to think, or do. But, oh surprise!, when it comes to the cakes they have removed themselves from the middle so that it is the people, in conscience, guided by propaganda, or by the performance of their function, who are in charge of giving or receiving them.

And now what? I want to be positive, but after listening to statements from the different parties, all wanting, in my opinion, to fish in troubled waters, my optimism becomes a matter of faith.

However, whatever the outcome of this, I want to bring here some verses by Facundo Cabral, from his song "Nuestro pasos", which may give us a clue as to how to solve this problem and all those of our personal or collective coexistence.

"I am more concerned about your eyes,

than the hatred of the enemy.

I never lost by force,

only love has defeated me."
