The general secretary of the Canarian Socialist Party (PSC-PSOE), Juan Carlos Alemán, said this Friday that he is "convinced" that the dismissals of the presidents of the port authorities of the two island provinces "will come sooner rather than later." Should we believe it? And why not, have the socialists given reason in their new position of external support to the Canarian Coalition (CC) Government to think otherwise? The highest official of the PSOE in the Canary Islands said in the press conference he offered to address all the issues affecting the region that the replacement of José Manuel Arnáiz, president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, and Luis Suárez Trenor, of the homologous entity in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has been his "request" to the Government of the Canary Islands. If he did not deceive us, the dismissal of the two port leaders was also discussed at the meeting held last Wednesday with the head of the Autonomous Executive, Adán Martín.

You know that José Manuel Arnáiz is about to surpass Luis Hernández in port controversies, and look how difficult it is, because the one who for so many years was president of the Port Authority earned himself a reputation as a troublemaker that no one has taken away from him to this day. We still remember in this newspaper that priceless headline that he offered us when, in a fit of anger, he was able to assure that in order to approve the PEPA -still not approved, by the way- the Arrecife City Council would have to ask him on its knees.

The curious thing about Arnáiz is that he entered with José Manuel Soria and the Popular Party (PP), due to those issues of power sharing by agreements and being as it is a position that although it depends on the Autonomous Community is linked to an activity controlled by the State. And it is curious because just as he entered with Soria, he did not leave with his hand, quite the opposite. It is said that now neither of them speaks to each other as a consequence of the sad episodes that were starred in because of the mess of the La Gran Marina de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria project, the "mess of the isthmus" as it was titled in the press. In addition to contradicting the one who was supposed to be his boss, Arnáiz was able to ally himself with CC and with his way of conceiving a project that encountered numerous bureaucratic and judicial obstacles.

There were tense moments in which the journalist Francisco Chavanel and his station Canarias Ahora Radio were even accused of having introduced microphones into the room where the Board of Directors of the public entity met to vote on this issue. A complete mess that now brings these muds.

In Lanzarote we cannot say that we are saddened by the foreseeable replacement of Arnáiz at the head of the Port Authority of Las Palmas. Under his mandate, no solution has been given to something as important as the construction of the cruise ship dock, and the rest of the projects, as always, have remained in the air. We will wait patiently to see how events unfold and to verify the true weight of the Canarian socialists.
