It's not about shearwaters

Poor things. They say that compassion is feeling the pain or fragility of others, but from an unwavering desire for the other's condition to improve. The last one I asked for desperate help has abandoned us, he needed all his energy to fly himself. He marked high political flights.

Once they spoke to me and asked me for help to get a truce. They had been exhausted for centuries delivering their young year after year. Now, it seemed that humans had food to subsist on and could give them a break. But it turned out that this had become culture, tradition and there was no possible pact. Death and oppression, over time, create vested rights; it is also so among human beings.

Out of that compassion, I stood between them and my species and betrayed them, violated them, repressed their rights not of proteins, but their "traditional" rights. Of course with some allies, in politics and human society. Now I feel alone, extremely alone - as a Cabildo worker - to give them a little more respite. I hope that these years have raised enough and the truce was useful to them.

This thought is of compassion for myself. There I was sleeping when they spoke to me, between the walls of that small hut that illustrates the photo that accompanies this article. This was already written. The one of the high flights did not even flutter. But he left the meanness done. Now. I hope that Coalición Canaria disappears from the politics of governments in this Archipelago. And at least this time, I am sure that whoever wins, no one will be able to do so much damage to nature. To life. Nobody. And I could even talk about the human one through the deplorable state of health in these Islands. To the management of health, not of the health workers, who every day I am more amazed at the ability to do so much with so little.

There is not much to discuss after I don't know how many years the Canarian sea: it is practically annihilated. If something survives around here it is thanks to the fact that the Marine Reserve is co-managed with the State and it seems a lie that with all the mistakes made by this one, it is the only one that has shown interest in the conservation of the Reserve. And it doesn't matter if it was PP or PSOE, light years away from Coalición. It was not very difficult to maintain those distances either.

As for the rest, well, you know, this is no longer a Natural Park and the only protection it has left comes from an even more distant legislation: the European one. But, the terrible thing is no longer that they got rid of the Park with their interested neglect until they forced justice to make the determination. The terrible thing is that they do not incorporate a new or alternative management system.

So be it to treat it as just another tourist center because, as far as is known, in the Jameos del Agua people do not jump into the lake to catch crabs, nor in the Cactus Garden do they take the plants to their homes and in Timanfaya, which receives millions of tourists, that is minimally ordered. And much less does anyone enter at night to loot them without encountering any surveillance.

They are absolutely incapable of managing anything new, of creating. They only pull with what was achieved before them and try to get the last euro out of it, without more. There are many people in Coalición that I respected, some friends, but either they became blind like the crabs or they did not know how to make themselves respected. In the end, time passes and after so many years they can look back, and??

I don't know about many things, but I know a lot about observing life. And I say it clearly: Coalición Canaria has been a real trauma for life. I had to live this life with two slabs, to others even worse. Mine have been Francoism and juanfrancisquismo. I am not stupid, both continue to permeate almost the entire spectrum of public and political life in Lanzarote. Both are egoic, predatory and abusive.

I know that, in any case, juanfrancisquismo will continue to influence the conejera political life whoever wins, but I know that there are influences and influences. The one of Coalición Canaria is voluntary: they throw themselves into their arms. We will see to what extent those who come are conditioned, but there is a space there.

So kid, I just want you to know my opinion, it's not that big of a deal. It's just my opinion. But I want you to know that if you are going to vote for them for something useful for you, be it a surf championship or a super sports competition or part of the cultural slice, I just want you to know that in my opinion you will do that against life. That I don't know if you know it: it is your life and that of your children. That and nothing else is Canarias: life.

Of the rest of the other parties I could tell you nefarious, terrible things, that you surely do not know. But between them and life there is still a space. However minimal it may be, here. You will have heard the people of Coalición Canaria say a thousand times that Alegranza is from the Jordán family. They lie knowingly. The Jordán family owns the interior of the island and not everything. All the public domain is yours and mine, the coasts. And that has a delimitation as won in justice as the Park was lost.

The public domain of Alegranza is enormous, rich and varied and of an unusual, clean and wild beauty. And it is yours and mine. That is where the reconquest of "our rights" over "our land" should begin. And those of "our land" over us. The interior of Alegranza: theirs without coasts is a "hell". For human beings.

So the management negotiation is served on a platter. If you think of everyone, in the public, their rights, and not exclusively in the private ones. And if we recover it as ours -its management-, it will be the moment, first to be generous with the life it harbors -unique- and then to set up a system to, with all the necessary precautions, get to know it and visit it in a fair and democratic way.

That is the last frontier; if we give it up we will be nothing, if we reconquer it little by little everything will revert for the common good. For a place like Canarias, so dependent on tourism with its polluting ships and planes and traffic, of all kinds of nonsense in our ports, perhaps what we can do for the world is to conquer our biodiversity, our beauty, our generosity and creativity. And along with that, reconquer the water. And, from there, little by little, get back on track. Democratically become owners of our future.

I remember that, when everyone was silent, I denounced things from the PSOE, things from the State, from Canarias and from the Cabildo and from the City Council. Loud and clear. In times where that was very complicated. As it is now to write what is written. And it cost me dearly.

It seems that now that they have remembered that the brawl of Los Pocillos was against the PSOE, they do seem interested in the activist facet of César. Ha! In those days, Dimas threatened almost with a civil war if we dared to mess with something in Costa Teguise. In that sense, he preferred that not even against the PSOE, his enemy of that moment, he wanted free rein of speculation for everyone. Does it ring a bell?

And by no means do I rule out with this, that people like Alicia Páez are not honest when they invite us to Coalición Canaria to defend ours, but ours is only life. To me, to many and to the young people who are waking up, we don't care about the infrastructures and services they give us if they go against life. Or if they forget about it.

Because life, in its base and in its form, is electromagnetism, always in everything there is the positive and the negative part. And as in electricity, there is no light if the two cables -negative, positive- do not work synchronized at the same time. Taking this to the current human reality, it would be a pole of progress and a pole of ecology, caution and conservation. For society, at the moment it is, only progress will melt the light; only ecology would also melt it for us. That was César's proposal, and against that proposal is the suicidal counterproposal of only all progress.

Coalición Canaria delivered to the pure and hard juanfrancisquismo on this island is tilting the balance absurdly towards the blackout. The model of people like San Ginés or Luis Celestino is Órzola. A parking town where the plots are sold at a gold price to park cars. A bar town. A departure station town to prey on the Islotes. And in the Islotes all the facilities for that predation. They don't even understand progress.

It is a way of saying it, so that they do not say it. I am really campaigning to explore the possibility of other government groups entering from which it is possible to rethink, update and revitalize the Manrique model. Making more emphasis on biodiversity and energy systems and water uses. And start to lose the fear of the tourist emporium and, little by little, decide what, how much and how we want in tourism, agriculture, fishing and other activities. And how their benefits are distributed in a more fair and socialized way.

Nothing will be easy; neither that Coalición leaves nor that the new ones have enough courage for the challenge. I give them the intelligence for granted. In short, I believe that we are in a position to do something more dignified with Órzola and by extension with Lanzarote and the Islotes. And if the world goes to hell, let it catch us in the task of safeguarding it. Here, on the island, which is where we have to. And lending a hand with those from other places that are in the task. And, then, even more fundamental is that civil society is reactivated, mobilized, organized.

A piece of advice. A small thing achieved with own resources will add more than a large subsidized one. That is the trick. In El Guincho in those confused and hard years, we had an unbreakable law: always in our budget the part of income from the partners had to be higher than that of external aid -subsidies-. That made it difficult to face many things, but it activated our spirit of delivery and our creativity to face the issues. And that is being alive. To give the life, which is being happy. In that state, the sticks, the defeats, are learnings; the victories, a respite, only a respite and to continue.

That said, if Coalición Canaria wins or if, as always, it gets the necessary agreements, or if those who could add on the other side do not agree, then I will suffer it. It is one of the things that my body knows how to do. But, because of how symbolic this centenary of César is, I consider it necessary to enter the terrero in my own way. Once again, things of life, it catches me when I was most at peace and comfortable. I give it. If with this letter I manage to make a single person reflect on the meaning of their vote, it was worth it and the possible hardships.

And be careful with the growth, when you are a child they tell you that you have to grow, they stimulate you and that is good, very good, but after 2 meters you will have to think if continuing to grow contributes something. Already over 2.20 we should not continue doubting; they are uncomfortable and involve an extraordinary expense of everything. And they are only worth for the one who goes up, on your shoulders, dear Lanzarote and its Islotes.
