How do you write callado or cayado?

I have doubts about the spelling of the word cayado when referring to beach stones. I guess it's with a y.

The word callao (or, very frequently, the variant callado) is applied to loose stones, rounded by the erosive action of the sea and rainwater, and also to the set of these stones, generally located on coastal coastlines and on the banks of ravines. Regarding linguistic affiliation, several authors point to the French term caillou, a word close to the Galician-Portuguese callau-calhau, which is where the Canarian callao undoubtedly comes from. Likewise, speakers who have distinguished and continue to distinguish /ll/ and /y/ always pronounce this word /calláo/ or /calládo/. Therefore, it should be written with ll.

Our words

apañada

1. f. Or. Action consisting of collecting the free-range goat livestock and enclosing it in the gambuesa. This operation, which is carried out irregularly, is mainly aimed at marking the guanil livestock and collecting some of the best heads to incorporate them into the herds that are in the care of the shepherds. They made a barbecue with two little males that they had caught in the apañada.

2. f. Fv. Each of the areas where this operation is carried out. Normally the shepherds from the Cofete apañada came to help those from the Pájara apañada.

3. f. Hi. Cattle fair.

gambuesa

1. f. Large stone corral where, during the apañada, the livestock that is raised freely is collected. The livestock is put into the gambuesa when there is a need, for example, to count it or mark it.

guanil

1. adj. Said of livestock that is raised freely, that does not have a mark that identifies the owner. In the apañada, the offspring that were guaniles were marked.

2. adj. Fv. Said of a person, animal or thing that, having a partner, is left alone.
