Culture is not confined, September 17 Red Alert.

September 17 2020 (17:15 WEST)

Culture has always been talked about as an engine against ignorance, as a ship of equality, as the tip of the iceberg of education, and those of us who defend this noble and distinguished subject so passionately are not wrong.
Culture has always been labeled and has always been tried to be pigeonholed into sides and/or social statuses, culture is cut back in times of crisis, culture is always the last link but none of this tarnishes its strength to navigate through those turbulent and unfortunate waters.

But still, we cannot let that happen again, we cannot let that happen again, we are facing a unique opportunity to tell the world that culture is life, it is education, training, the best ally to develop our senses, our emotions and that it is the force that moves the planet.

Culture is always necessary, in good times and in bad, culture is the best weapon against the intolerant, against ignorance, culture teaches, trains, prepares, has the capacity for analysis, criticism, adapts, presents countless forms, it is not monolithic, it is of incalculable wealth.

And that is; culture generates progress in all its manifestations.

Now in times of COVID19 and in the face of the new outbreak we are experiencing, culture can be a refuge for those who lose hope, for those of us who need to see a way out, and it is also a light for those who live from it, those whom we cannot abandon, a multitude of self-employed and micro-enterprises, artists, representatives, etc. etc.

The effort to digitize access to culture still has to be developed in public administrations, fortunately in the private sector this is already a fact. Therefore, and to guarantee access, new entry formulas must be articulated from every institution.

The state must address the claims of the manifesto that will be read today at the Red Alert demonstration, which includes the need to recognize the entertainment and events sector by institutions and public administrations as a sector "especially harmed" by the coronavirus and "priority"", which this councilman totally agrees with. In addition, they ask for the "immediate" creation of a sector table. They also ask for an "immediate reactivation" of the cultural and event agendas of public administrations, "under strict compliance" with all protocols. And I second this claim, being totally in favor of reactivating culture in our municipality, with all the security measures and strict compliance with health protocols.

From the City Council of Yaiza, with the aim of continuing to generate added cultural value to our people, to our neighbors, we are working on tools that bring culture closer to each of the homes because for us, even in these times, culture is not confined.

Daniel Medina Councilor for Culture
City Council of Yaiza.
