The plenary session of the Yaiza City Council has unanimously approved the proposal to bring a motion in the next municipal plenary session to recognize as Favorite Sons "two emblematic people" Víctor Fernández Gopar and Pascual Calabuig. The Popular Party has expressed its "satisfaction" at the acceptance of this proposal presented by its political formation.
The popular councilor and municipal spokesperson for the party, Juan Monzón, defended in the session held this Thursday the initiative presented last March, requesting the appointment of Favorite Son, posthumously, for Victor Fernández Gopar; the poet and self-taught from Las Breñas, "whose verses in the form of seguidillas are known and valued by the society of Lanzarote, and to whom the Title of Honorary Councilor was already granted posthumously".
The second proposal is that of Pascual Calabuig who will be named Adoptive Son, posthumously. Although Valencian based in Gran Canaria, Calabuig Porcal developed "a very important work as a sports journalist and for more than fifty years spent long seasons in what he considered his second home, Playa Blanca."
“We are very happy that the last plenary session of this term has served for the consensus of everyone around these two great people, very different, but who had in common their love for Yaiza and for our land”, Juan Monzón highlighted. A more than deserved recognition that the southern Populars trust can materialize at the beginning of the next term, before the end of the year.
