The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has formally requested a meeting with the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez Valido, to address several issues of relevance to the municipality, with special attention to the project of 136 protected homes on plot 80 of Montaña Roja, in the tourist town of Playa Blanca “key to meet the growing demand for housing in the south of Lanzarote”.

In his letter, the mayor expresses his interest in the counselor being able to visit the municipality to “be able to show him in situ the situation and importance of the project”, however, and understanding the possible limitations of the institutional agenda, he expresses his total willingness to travel to Gran Canaria or Tenerife to hold the meeting.

“The housing problem is one of the main concerns of the families of Yaiza and this Montaña Roja project is an urgent need for the municipality”, explains Óscar Noda, who recalls that “the counselor's forecast was to tender its construction before the summer but the month of July will soon end and, for the moment, we have no news, when it is a project that already has all the mandatory reports from the municipal technical office”.

“We are talking about an action that can significantly alleviate the serious housing shortage suffered by the south of Lanzarote, so we ask the regional Executive for greater speed”, insists Noda. “We cannot forget that Playa Blanca is a first-class tourist destination and, therefore, this project not only responds to an obvious social demand, but is also key to guaranteeing the stability of the workforce in essential sectors and the competitiveness of the destination itself”, concludes the southern president.
