The Housing Department of the Government of the Canary Islands pledged at the beginning of the year to tender the works for the 136 social housing units in Playa Blanca before the arrival of summer. However, already in the month of July, it has not yet done so.
In the midst of an unprecedented housing crisis on the island, Lanzarote had gone 27 years without building public housing and those that are underway, promoted by the previous government group, have not yet been completed. Proof of this are the 201 homes in Maneje that will not be completed until at least 2026.
The Canarian Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the regional Executive, Pablo Rodríguez, pledged in February to tender the construction of these 136 properties before the summer period. The works, on a plot of 42,000 square meters, was ceded by the City Council of Yaiza to build public housing of 50 square meters of useful surface.
The objective of these homes is that they are then handed over to applicants for affordable rent and managed by the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI).
