The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, informed this Monday the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, that the forecast of the regional Executive is to tender the construction of the 136 homes planned in Playa Blanca before summer.

For his part, the southern president ratified to Rodríguez the municipal urban conformity of the urbanization project of the 42,000 m² plot ceded by the City Council in Montaña Roja where these public housing units of 50 m² of useful surface will be built, whose affordable rent will be managed by the Canarian Institute of Housing (ICAVI).

Pablo Rodríguez and Óscar Noda met at the headquarters of the Ministry in Gran Canaria in a meeting also attended by the Councilor for Public Works of Yaiza, Ángel Lago, and two municipal technicians, to discuss initiatives in the area of housing, roads and port. The minimum execution period for the works of the 136 homes is 18 months.

"The housing problem is more than blatant in the municipality of Yaiza and much more in the tourist area of Playa Blanca, that is why we have talked about the need to speed up the construction of the 136 homes and work in parallel on other alternative solutions such as the purchase of more houses in the third phase of the Los Ajaches residential, where the Government of the Canary Islands and the Island Council have just acquired the 42 houses of its second phase."

The City Council urged Club Lanzarote, through the tool of the Supplementary General Planning Plan of Yaiza, to reserve this plot of the Los Ajaches residential area for the construction of buildings under the private promotion protected housing regime.

"Not only have we asked the Minister to purchase the 76 homes of the third phase of Los Ajaches that should begin to be built shortly, but we also told him that we are willing to cede another plot so that the Government can develop another construction project in view of the investments of the new Housing Plan of the Autonomous Community. All initiatives that help to meet the needs of the demand are valid and complementary," says the mayor, who appreciates the attention of the Minister Pablo Rodríguez and also the interest of the director of ICAVI, Antonio Ortega.
