The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, confirmed this Tuesday that the City Council authorizes, starting next weekend, the attendance of fans to the Municipal Soccer Field of Yaiza during the official competition matches of the Youth and Regional Preferential categories, with a maximum capacity of 124 people, "provided that the alert level due to the incidence of Covid-19 established for Lanzarote is maintained or decreased and that the Unión Sur Yaiza Club is responsible for strict compliance with the Contagion Prevention Plan commissioned by the City Council."
The institution has made this plan available to the sports entity "to preserve the health of soccer players, referees, maintenance personnel and spectators", with the intention of carrying out a "pilot test with youth and the preferred team", which has been agreed between the local administration and the Club, excluding training days. The next step would be to also open it to the rest of the grassroots soccer categories "in successive weeks".
“Since the end of last year, we have drafted prevention plans for the soccer field, for the wrestling ground and for the municipal gym in order to apply them when the highly variable circumstances of the pandemic allow it,” said the mayor of Yaiza at the end of the meeting he held this Tuesday together with the Councilor for Sports with members of the board of directors of the southern Club, headed by its president, Santiago Díaz, one of the technical writers of the Prevention Plan and personnel from the Yaiza Sports Area.
"In addition to the artificial turf sports field itself, the Plan describes the uses of other spaces such as changing rooms, toilets and, of course, stands, where the interpersonal distance between non-cohabitants must be 1.5 meters in the duly delimited occupation sectors," they explain from the Consistory.
Regarding access to and exit from the venue, gate number 1, the main gate, will be used by the public and accredited media, while gate number 2, located behind the north goal, is only enabled for access and eviction of athletes, technical staff and the refereeing team.
Óscar Noda emphasizes that “the Unión Sur Yaiza Club must be the first guarantor of compliance with the Prevention Plan and this is what we have conveyed and agreed in the technical meeting we held with its board of directors”. The Club must now, in the case of the regional preferred team's matches, determine the way to pre-acquire tickets so that fans can enjoy the sports show. The US Yaiza youth team, led by Carlos Ramírez, will play this Saturday at 12:30 in Yaiza against Puerto del Carmen, in what will be the premiere of the return of the public to the stands.
