Tinajo has followed in the footsteps of Teguise and has also announced the opening of all municipal sports facilities from this Monday. This is the second municipality governed by the Canarian Coalition to adopt this decision outside the Island Council, which was created at the beginning of the pandemic to act in a coordinated manner between the Cabildo and the seven municipalities.

In a statement, the City Council points out that it has adopted this measure "taking into account the current data on the accumulated incidence of Covid-19 positives on the island" and "after implementing the measures derived from the Government's decree in all facilities, with the aim of allowing public attendance, always adhering to health regulations."

"A series of measures will be implemented to guarantee minimum conditions of safety and prevention that will be controlled by the team of the Department of Sports led by Vianney Rodríguez," said the mayor, Jesús Machín. "If we all collaborate, we will ensure that the use and attendance of Tinajo's sports facilities become a reality, so demanded by our residents, and that it is maintained over time," he added.

The fact that the sports facilities have remained closed had been criticized by CC, although the competence over the municipal venues has always been of each municipality, since the decisions of the Island Council are not binding. In the last meeting, the Council agreed to re-analyze it after Easter, once the impact of these holidays on the spread of Covid-19 has been evaluated. However, Teguise and Tinajo have finally decided to move forward.
