Lanzarote said goodbye this Wednesday to the deputy of the Canarian Nationalist Group Cristina Calero García, who died this Tuesday in Lanzarote, at the age of 36.
Family, friends, party colleagues, and members of the Parliament of the Canary Islands bid their final farewell to the young woman from Lanzarote at 1:00 PM in the church of San Ginés, in Arrecife.
After her death became known, different political parties such as the Socialist Party, the Popular Party, Nueva Canarias, and Coalición Canaria expressed their condolences for her loss and showed their support for family, friends, and loved ones. Thus, from Coalición Canaria they highlighted that Calero's "way of understanding politics was linked to that same vocation of service: being close to people, listening to their concerns, and working to respond to the real problems of society".
Calero had served since July 2023, at the beginning of this legislature, as deputy in the Parliament of the Canary Islands for the island constituency of Lanzarote within the Canarian Nationalist Parliamentary Group.
During her political career, Calero was councilor for Activities and Patrimonial Responsibility in the Arrecife City Council, between November 2022 and June 2023. Furthermore, her political affiliation began in the Young Nationalists of the Canary Islands, where she held the Executive Secretariat for Youth Policies and Studies.
She held a degree in Biology from the University of Granada, specialized in Regional Development from the University of La Laguna, and was an expert in Political Leadership from the same university. Calero combined her role as a councilor with her work as a Secondary and Vocational Training teacher.
