The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, was this Tuesday on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero to answer some questions in relation to the municipality. Specifically, regarding the statements of Compromiso por Haría that denounced a few days ago that Haría was left without the Local Police service during the Christmas days and New Year's Eve.
In this sense, the mayor has recognized that the number of agents is not what I would like, but not only in these festivities, but in the ordinary services that have been left unattended for three days, December 24, 25 and 31.
Villalba continued saying that this will have its consequences within the body because the services were decreed, also the mayor wanted to highlight that the government of Chaxiraxi Niz, in the previous legislature, did not approve a single budget in that stage, which has not allowed us to adhere to the different calls that the Government of the Canary Islands has had for not having the budgets approved. The last budget approved was in 2020 and in 2024 but in 2019 and 2023 there were none.
We are trying to see how we can improve this situation with transfer competitions and try to get our own oppositions because we are aware that the situation is not the best, he said.
Regarding the way in which the selection of the agents' staff is carried out, the mayor explained that in the case of the Local Police, it was concluded that the best thing to do was to make a public call from the Government of the Canary Islands to then make the distributions to the different municipalities of the islands and the only municipalities of Lanzarote that have not adhered are those of Tinajo and Haría, the latter for not having the budgets approved in the stage of Niz as mayor.
