The first of the boats arrived this Wednesday, at 9.30 am at Reducto beach, in Arrecife, and on it were traveling 14 people of Maghrebi origin, including a woman. A resident of the area alerted the Emergency Coordination Center of their arrival, as they had not been detected by the surveillance services.
At about four in the morning on Thursday, another boat arrived on the island of La Graciosa, with an undetermined number of immigrants, as, having not been detected, the occupants fled. Although it is estimated that 24 immigrants could have arrived. So far, ten people of Maghrebi origin have been arrested, among whom there are six alleged minors. It is expected that during the day, the rest will be located.
Ten arrested in La Graciosa
In the early morning, the barking of a pet alerted its owner, a resident of the town, to the presence of people. After observing several immigrants in the vicinity, he notified the security agents of the Teguise City Council. Thus began the investigations to arrest part of the occupants of a small boat, which a few minutes before had landed in the area known as Caletas de Abajo.
The first immigrants intercepted were four alleged minors - one of them with minor injuries - who had barely distanced themselves from the coastal area. In the following hours, the agents also arrested another six Maghrebi people in El Corral and Montaña Amarilla. The statements of the ten detainees, who received health care and food in the municipal facilities, indicate that a total of 24 immigrants arrived on the Eighth Island.
