The repair of roads in the municipality of Tinajo is a priority. For this reason, one of the points approved in the plenary session held this week was the distribution of financing for the works included in the Island Cooperation Plan. This will allow the road that connects El Tablero with Mancha Blanca as well as a street in El Rubicón to be conditioned.

A budget of 60,000 euros

The budget is 60,000 euros that will be distributed between the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo and the City Council. Both the government group and the opposition approved this point unanimously. However, the representative of the Socialist Party (PSOE), Marcos Hernández, insisted that there is a section of road from the Cemetery to La Vegueta "that to the extent that it is done and in the shortest possible time will favor traffic in the area understanding that the entrance and exit of Tinajo is dangerous and that the money from the Plan of Works and Services is invested in this type of infrastructure".

For his part, the mayor of the municipality, Jesús Machín, pointed out that this work is the responsibility of the Cabildo. "We have asked them to remove the speed bumps from the road that connects Tiagua with Tinajo and to fix the palm trees," explained the first mayor of Tinajo.

Two entrance lanes

But the response of the First Institution is to make two entrance lanes between Tiagua and Tinajo as well as two exit lanes on the cemetery road. "They say that they see it well and that it will have to be included in the budgets that I hope will be as soon as possible because in the plan a road like this can cost 500 million pesetas and the city council would have to put 200 when it is money that the Cabildo has to put exclusively," said Jesús Machín.

Another of the important points to highlight is the modification of the norm that governs the General Urban Planning Plan. The most outstanding thing is that the residents of Tinajo will have one month, once it is published in the bulletin and on the notice board of the Consistory, to request the change of the qualification of their land. "It is a way for the residents to have the possibility of having their houses legalized," explained Jesús Machín. In this case, the point was also approved unanimously.

Other improvements

During the plenary session, some aspects were approved that will allow several improvements in the municipality. This is the case of the contracting, through a financial lease, of two all-terrain vehicles and their accessories for the service of the Local Police. For this operation, the offer will be put out to tender. Also unanimously, the general account of the 2004 budget was approved. A point on which there was no debate since it had already been discussed and both the government group and the opposition agreed.
