The City Council of Tías, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Adsis Foundation presented this Tuesday the project Espacio Joven Tías, a program that will be developed during the years 2025 and 2026 to promote employability, socio-labor insertion and the active participation of youth, while working on the prevention of risky behaviors.

The project, which is managed by the Adsis Foundation, has the direct involvement of the Department of Youth of the City Council of Tías and the financing of the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands. Its actions are being developed in the Youth Space of Plaza El Pavón, Tías, and in other spaces of the municipality.

The presentation ceremony was led by the mayor, José Juan Cruz, the general director of Youth, Daniel Morales, the first deputy mayor, Nicolás Saavedra, the councilor for Youth, Pepa González, and the coordinator of the Adsis Foundation, Leticia Curbelo.

José Juan Cruz stressed that "in the last period of this year some actions will be carried out such as the implementation of the second chance school methodology, the accreditation of training classrooms for the realization of professional certificates and the elaboration of a diagnosis to detect the needs of young people, in addition to the subsequent creation of a strategic plan".

Daniel Morales recalled that "this is a program subsidized by the Government of the Canary Islands through the tax allocation of the IRPF, charged to line 9 of Youth, and confirmed the commitment of the Executive with projects that include the direct involvement of young people".

For Nicolás Saavedra, this is an "important" proposal because it provides an open, dynamic and participatory space to the municipality, "promoted by the Department of Youth and managed by the Adsis Foundation, a guarantee that everything is done effectively".

Pepa González spoke of "open doors" for citizens and youth associations who are interested in being part of the Strategic Plan for Adolescence and Youth. "That they approach the Youth area and the Adsis Foundation so that together we can ensure that young people feel truly heard and are part of the youth policies of the municipality," she declared.

Second chance school

Leticia Curbelo stated in turn that, with these initiatives "we achieve that the dreams of young people are fulfilled", because "we create spaces for guidance, prevention, healthy leisure and youth participation".

"We are working on the accreditation of training classrooms for professional certificates and on the elaboration of a needs diagnosis that will serve as the basis for a Strategic Youth Plan in Tías. All this is added to the implementation of new innovative methodologies such as the second chance school," she said.

The lines of action that are being carried out consist of providing a preventive space, an individual guidance space, a playful-reflective space, youth meetings, a youth commission and networking with weekly meetings

Among the main objectives are the prevention of risky behaviors (substance use, violence among peers, risky sexual behaviors, etc.) and support in the search for employment, with personalized itineraries, job guidance and provision of tools for access to training and the labor market.

It also seeks to stimulate personal and social fulfillment by promoting vital projects and reflections on affective relationships, healthy leisure and overcoming difficulties; the promotion of personal and social skills, such as assertiveness, negotiation or affective education; and the promotion of participation and associationism, promoting responsible youth citizenship.
