The Tías City Council, governed by PSOE, Lanzarote Avanza (LAVA) and Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos, is preparing to turn Puerto del Carmen into an "attractive, sustainable and quality" destination. To this end, it already has an open and dynamic document, which has a program of actions to activate the tourist area with “innovation and quality” and which has been presented this Friday to the members of the corporation.
The Dynamization Plan for Innovation and Quality of the Complementary Offer of Puerto del Carmen was detailed in the Salón Indieras to all political parties with representation in the corporation. They were also informed of the situation of the III Modernization Plan of Puerto del Carmen, whose environmental document is in public information; of the Tourism Intelligence System; of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan; and of the adaptation of the General Urban Planning Plan to the Canary Islands Land Law, which is already in its final stretch of awarding the contract to choose a drafting team.
The mayor, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, stressed that the Tourism Dynamization Plan is connected to the III Plan for Modernization, Improvement and Increase of Competitiveness, for which the first monitoring commission has already been held and in which "no less than 48 investment initiatives are contemplated, of which only three proposals have been detached due, evidently, to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
A plan that is open to financing from other administrations
The Dynamization Plan is a "relevant" proposal according to the Council, because it runs parallel to the Modernization Plan, which has a more urban character. In the case of the Dynamization Plan, measures are contemplated to qualify the complementary offer of Puerto del Carmen, starting with the La Tiñosa area and continuing along Avenida de las Playas and surroundings.
It is proposed to intervene with actions to boost the business of small and medium-sized establishments, urban actions to improve the urban space and commitment to quality. The drafting team of the Plan, from the company Consultores Rafael Castellano, explained that this plan is open to financing from other administrations and the Tourism Sustainability Plans of the Secretary of State for Tourism.
The proposed lines of action are oriented towards providing solutions for integral accessibility, improvement in mobility and incentives for sustainable uses and activities with the increase of the pedestrian network and the bicycle network, improvement of signage in accesses and routes, harmonization of street furniture and ordering of the occupation of invaded public spaces.
Improvements to the complementary offer are also proposed through consultancies for innovation and quality with business training programs, as well as the implementation of an integrated information system to improve the competitive capacity of small and medium-sized businesses.
