In yesterday's plenary session, the Tías City Council approved a modification of the budget to enable a credit transfer in order to invest 80,000 euros in the "Islas Canarias" avenue, in the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen.

The aim is to complete the section at the roundabout of the Municipal Nursery, between Juan Carlos I street and Anzuelo street. With the execution of this work, which will complete this section that is currently well advanced, circulation in the affected area will be improved and an important part of this road, which is considered fundamental to boost the tourist area and avoid traffic congestion on Avenida de las Playas, will be developed.

Improvements in inter-island transport

In addition, the City Council Plenary approved a motion urging the Government of the Canary Islands to adopt or promote whatever measures are necessary to oversee the correct and efficient operation of the companies that operate and provide air and sea transport services of an insular nature. It is also requested to promote and achieve real competition between the different companies in guarantee of a better service for users.

Sanitation plan in Puerto del Carmen

The efforts made in recent months by the General Directorate of Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, the General Directorate of Water of the Central Government and the Tías City Council have resulted in the approval of the technical project for the expansion of the sewerage system of Puerto del Carmen, which will have an investment of 17 million euros.

This was confirmed by the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, during the plenary session held yesterday. In his own words, this project "will solve the problem of sanitation and rainwater network suffered by this tourist center".

LZ-2 Homes

Another important issue discussed by the councilors was the situation of legal uncertainty in which the families who own the homes built between the LZ-2 road and Ángel Guerra street find themselves. These constructions do not meet the necessary conditions for them to be granted an occupancy license and the government group announced that it has already informed the Prosecutor's Office of the breach of legality by the developer of the works.

The PP spokesperson stated that he is very concerned about the situation of the families because "they are going to have a serious problem in the future" and recalled that these people "have made an investment to acquire these homes and the Government group is not going to grant the necessary occupancy license so that they can move into those houses".

The beaches of Puerto del Carmen lose sand

The popular group presented an important motion requesting a study on the movements of sand on the beaches of Puerto del Carmen. Indeed, it has been observed that the sand on these beaches is not in the same condition as it was a few years ago, as the level has dropped considerably.

The spokesperson for Alternativa Ciudadana (AC), Mª Emilia Morales, recalled that "losing the sands is losing our livelihood". Months ago, her party proposed to the Government group that it request said report from the team of researchers from the University of Las Palmas, who had already investigated a similar case in Fuerteventura. But the mayor assured that the issue is already in the hands of the General Directorate of Coasts.
