The Plenary of the Tías City Council unanimously approved in its last session the Comprehensive Equality Project of the municipality 2021-2023, which opens the possibility of obtaining more resources to work on gender violence, citizen participation and mainstreaming the gender perspective.
The government team, formed by PSOE, Lanzarote Avanza (LAVA) and Lanzarote en Pie-Si Podemos, presented this proposal to the plenary, which was also supported by the parties in the opposition. "The project is an open and flexible document that contemplates its development and subsequent evaluation, inviting the participation of citizens and social agents to achieve awareness in terms of equality of the participating people," they explain from the City Council.
The Councilor for Social Services and Equality, Nicolás Saavedra, pointed out in the plenary that the specific objectives and the actions proposed for their achievement have been organized around three axes or strategic lines: the mainstreaming of the gender perspective from the local administration, participation, awareness and education in equal opportunities and gender violence.
In the statement of reasons for the motion presented, it was stated that "the real and effective equality of women and men is a fundamental element of democracy for the political, social and economic construction of our society."
In addition, it was highlighted that "despite the achievements and the laws that guarantee the principle of non-discrimination on the grounds of sex and equality as a superior value of the legal system, situations of discrimination and inequality continue to occur in areas such as the labor market, participation and decision-making, care for dependent people, domestic work, etcetera."
