Tías Town Council has publicly expressed its gratitude to the residents of the municipality, as well as to the Fishermen's Association of La Tiñosa, for their "active participation" in the survey aimed at deciding the future use of the Varadero Fish Market.
The results of the consultation have shown "broad support for the idea of transforming this emblematic space into a project that values traditional fishing and marine biodiversity", fundamental pillars of the cultural and natural heritage of Tías.
In response to this majority will, the Town Council has begun taking steps to design a project that combines both proposals. The objective is to turn the Fish Market into "a point of reference that not only preserves and promotes our fishing traditions, but also drives the conservation of the rich marine environment that characterises our municipality".
The Fishermen's Association, the key
José Juan Cruz, Mayor of Tías, has highlighted that "citizen participation is essential to build a Tías that reflects the aspirations of its people" and, in particular, the collaboration of the Fishermen's Association of La Tiñosa has been recognised, whose knowledge and experience will be key to developing this initiative.
The Mayor is committed to keeping citizens informed about the progress and next steps of this project, which seeks to highlight and preserve our coastal identity and guarantee the protection of marine resources for future generations.
