The Independent Trade Union and Civil Servants (CSIF) has denounced that "the staff of the offices of the Insular Directorate of Education of Lanzarote has been providing the means of hygiene and prevention against COVID-19 since the de-escalation" because "they are not provided" by the Ministry.

"These means have been requested by the workers and CSIF and the silence has been received as an answer", they point out from the union, from where they clarify that they refer "fundamentally to masks and hydroalcoholic gels".

"The gel in the offices has been put in place by the employees, paying for it themselves because otherwise there wouldn't be any", says Jesús Manuel Díaz, delegate of the CSIF. "A hydroalcoholic gel that is not only used by employees, but also by users of these facilities", he says.

Regarding masks, Díaz states that in other sectors of the public administration "they are provided to public service workers". "But here they have to provide their own masks when there are staff managing appointments at the door, with even more risk", he says.

Complaint to the Labor Inspectorate

According to the trade union delegate of the CSIF, the workers of the Insular Directorate of Education of Lanzarote have been "in this situation for almost half a year" and, therefore, he states that a few days ago he filed a complaint with the Labor and Social Security Inspectorate for alleged violations of the Law on Prevention of Occupational Risks and other recent regulations as a result of the health crisis we are experiencing. "The health and hygiene at work of this staff are at stake", he adds.

The union considers it "unacceptable that, in such a delicate situation, the Ministry of Education does not deign to provide the means of prevention and hygiene to employees and users of the facilities in Lanzarote.

"While in this Ministry they are constantly throwing things at each other's heads for political reasons, we find working people who are not provided with adequate materials to protect themselves against the coronavirus and they have to take them from home, paying for them with the money from their pockets", it is pointed out.

CSIF demands that the administration provide "immediately" the staff of the Insular Directorate of Education of Lanzarote with adequate means of prevention and hygiene.
