The PSOE will ask Oswaldo Betancort about the actions to recover more than 2 million from a "toxic" BBVA product

"The damage caused to the municipal coffers amounts to 2,163,229 euros, and after more than a decade of CC government in Teguise, they have not managed to cancel the bank product and recover the money," criticizes Marcos Bergaz

The PSOE of Teguise will ask Oswaldo Betancort in the next plenary session for answers about the status of the cancellation of a "toxic" banking operation signed by the City Council and the BBVA entity in June 2006 and modified in December 2010, which meant a "damage for the people of Teguise of more than 2 million euros."

"The damage caused to the municipal coffers amounts to 2,163,229.51 euros, and after more than a decade of the Canary Coalition government in Teguise, they have not managed to cancel the bank product and recover the millionaire amount, as other city councils have done," criticizes the socialist spokesperson, Marcos Bergaz.

For the socialists, "the matter is of utmost importance because of how much could be done in Teguise and La Graciosa with the more than 2 million euros we are talking about." For this reason, they recall that "weeks ago" they requested "to access the file and the actions carried out, after agreeing in plenary two years ago to take legal action to cancel the product and achieve the reimbursement of the money."

"From the documentation provided by the government, it is clear that in these two years, they have only proceeded in July 2021 - more than a year ago - to propose a conciliation with the bank, which obviously ended without any agreement," the socialists emphasize, "which, if so, and not having undertaken any other claim action, would be irresponsible, given the urgency, the more than ten years they have been in government and the significant economic sum we are talking about."

"It would not be understood that, with how quickly banks are when it comes to claiming their debts from customers, they had not exercised all possible actions. Therefore, we will ask in the next plenary session about an issue that has been one of the priorities of the socialist group during this term, considering it absurd that more than a decade later we are still not recovering money from all the people of Teguise," concludes Bergaz.
