The PSOE spokesman in the Arrecife City Council, Alfredo Mendoza, has lamented "the war of statements unleashed between the Popular Party and Coalición Canaria" for the merit of getting the congress palace.

"It seems to me a regrettable spectacle, more typical of children than of public officials of the third capital of the Canary Islands," Mendoza pointed out. In this line, he has reproached: "If they had decency and shame, what they should do is apologize for having irresponsibly delayed the transfer of land to the Cabildo of Lanzarote."

The socialist leader has expressed his surprise at the "low-level politicking" of the two partners of the pact that governs Arrecife, since the truth is that next Monday is when this transfer, which they now boast about, will be approved by the plenary of the corporation.

"With a simple reading of the file, it is demonstrated that they have lied, and they have not granted the land previously with an evident political intention. What they do not explain is that the Cabildo repeatedly requested the transfer of that land. The last request from the first island corporation was made in August 2022 and the responsible councilor deigned to begin the process in December 2022 and on Monday, a year and a month later, is when it finally reaches the plenary," the spokesman explained.

Mendoza recalled that in order for the Congress Palace to be a reality, "it was the government of Loli Corujo that commissioned and obtained a modification of the project, which had to adapt to the regulatory changes that had occurred since the original project was presented, as well as initiate the steps to adapt the qualification of the land, since Arrecife had not processed it."

"The Cabildo did its homework and the only thing the City Council had to do, transfer the land, is what has delayed this vital investment for Arrecife," he concluded.
