The PSOE of Lanzarote has celebrated the decision of the Port Authority of Las Palmas to reject the installation of a gas station in Puerto Naos, in Arrecife, after the negative report issued by the Ministry of the Interior. However, the Island Director of the State Administration in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera, has lamented that "if it had been up to the Cabildo and the Arrecife City Council, the gas station would have been installed without any opposition."

"Neither the Cabildo nor the City Council presented formal allegations. Their action was limited to a motion without practical effects, a simple declaration of intentions while the processing continued its course," Viera said.

The socialist leader emphasized that it was the Island Directorate of the State Administration, together with the National Police Station, who acted with rigor and responsibility, presenting allegations and activating all the necessary mechanisms to stop a project that posed a risk to security and an obvious urban absurdity.

"Thanks to the serious and coordinated work of the State, a new urban outrage has been avoided. The decision of the Port Authority confirms that institutional action, when carried out responsibly, yields results," Viera added.

The PSOE of Lanzarote believes that this episode once again demonstrates the lack of leadership and management by the Coalición Canaria and Partido Popular governing group, both in the Cabildo and in the Arrecife City Council, who only react "when others do the work that corresponds to them."
