The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has denounced that the government of Oswaldo Betancort "continues to fail to take measures to improve public transport on the island, despite the urgent needs of the citizens." "Betting on quality public transport means offering a service capable of providing satisfactory answers to those who use it, something that this government is not doing," said the PSOE spokesperson in the Cabildo, Ariagona González.

The socialists warn that the deficiency of the service forces many people to lose hours in travel due to the low frequency of some lines and the need to make unnecessary transfers. "It is unacceptable that anyone from our neighborhoods and towns spends two hours or more traveling to their workplace due to a poorly designed transport system with no political will to improve it," criticized González.

In this sense, the PSOE of Lanzarote emphasizes "the urgency of redesigning intercity transport to allow, for example, residents of Argana to travel directly to Puerto del Carmen or Playa Blanca without having to go through the ordeal of first taking urban transport and then making transfers."

In addition, the socialists recall that "under the presidency of María Dolores Corujo, decisive progress was made in the specifications to recover the transport service into public hands, guaranteeing more efficient management oriented to the real needs of the citizens." "While the socialist government was promoting a transformation of the public transport model, the current government of Betancort has limited itself to extending, under conditions of dubious legality, the existing contract, without including in the budgets any provision to expand lines and frequencies," explained González.

"The only thing we have heard during the last year and a half when we have raised initiatives on public transport is the same repetitive phrase that 'they are working on it,' while citizens continue to suffer a service that does not respond to their needs," denounced the socialist spokesperson.

From the PSOE of Lanzarote, they demand that the government of the Cabildo "assume its responsibility and immediately implement concrete measures to guarantee efficient, accessible public transport adapted to the reality of the island."

During the plenary session, the Socialist Group denounced that "until the arrival of María Dolores Corujo to the presidency, no Government had initiated the procedures to improve the conditions of the service." "Coalición Canaria is defending at all costs a continuity model that if it benefits someone, it is certainly not the people of Lanzarote," they concluded from the PSOE.
