The PSOE of Haría has agreed not to attend the Plenary session for the inauguration of the new mayoress of the municipality, Evelia García, which will take place this Tuesday, July 12.

The spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Alfredo Villalba, explained that this decision “has been adopted because the accidental mayor, José Torres Stinga, decided to disregard the unanimous agreement of the councilors that the date of the Plenary session for the election of the new mayoress would be taken by consensus.”

At the conclusion of the extraordinary and urgent plenary session held days ago, in which the resignation of Chaxiraxi Niz as mayoress of Haría was acknowledged, all the councilors decided that the date of the Plenary session for the inauguration of her replacement would be agreed upon by consensus. However, “the accidental mayor, José Torres Stinga, convened the Plenary session for Tuesday, July 12, at 12:00 noon, knowing that on that date the socialist spokesperson would be out of the island,” says the PSOE.

"Given that Alfredo Villalba will not be able to be present at the Plenary session as Torres Stinga flaunts an absolute disregard for the given word and the agreements adopted, the rest of the PSOE councilors have decided to stand in solidarity with our colleague and denounce the bad political practices of Torres Stinga, who remains clinging to his ego, to an outdated way of understanding the management of public affairs, and without understanding that his time has passed,” explains Villalba.

"We deeply regret that we have been forced to make this decision,” the socialists point out. “However, we wish the new mayoress good luck in the short time she has ahead for the good of the residents of Haría.”

“Hopefully Evelia García can exercise her new responsibility far from the long shadow of this vestige of the old cacique and deceitful politics of Lanzarote that is called José Torres Stinga,” they conclude.
