The Socialist Group in the Arrecife City Council has denounced the "opacity and secrecy" of Yonathan de León with respect to the elaboration of the municipal Heritage Catalog, after the government group rejected in the plenary session of this Friday morning the socialist motion so that the rest of the political forces would participate in the elaboration process.
“The government group has voted against with the far-fetched excuse that “they are working on it and therefore not allowing the PSOE to have access to the information or be in the processing procedures,” denounces the spokesperson and councilor of the Socialist Group in the city council, Alfredo Mendoza.
The socialist proposal also requested that "information be provided on the situation of the Municipal Heritage Council", definitively approved in November 2022. “In Arrecife, in recent years, it is necessary to prepare a municipal catalog and if not prepare it, at least update it. We have witnessed the demolitions of buildings that could be protected, giving rise to a conflict of interest between the property and the City Council itself”.
“It must be remembered that in the past legislature it was the Popular Party that carried the area and all it did was pay 15,000 euros to Gesplan to end up doing absolutely nothing. With the Canarian Coalition three years in the government, less has been done”, said Mendoza, who adds that "during this legislature BIC procedures have also been initiated" and “this government group has not done its job”.
The councilor concludes by pointing out that “rejecting our motion is yet another sign that they are not working, with the consequences that a lack of protection of the city's heritage and a constant conflict of interest between administration and the ownership of these assets due to the lack of legal certainty".
