The PSOE of Arrecife has denounced that the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León "has ratified the racist statements of Echedey Eugenio during the last plenary session of the Arrecife City Council."
Roy González, councilor of the Socialist Group in the Arrecife City Council, has denounced that Yonathan de León “refused to debate the socialist motion that requested the rejection by the plenary session of the racist statements made by the deputy mayor, despite the fact that the debate of other motions presented urgently was accepted”.
The socialist councilor denounces the “interested arbitrariness of the mayor to show solidarity with his government partner, swallowing to keep the seat.”
“The citizens of Arrecife are tired of enduring the shameful spectacle of a mayor proud of his deputy mayor and the new racist drift that Coalición Canaria has taken”, said González, who added that “it gives the sensation that Yonathan de León is satisfied to finally share racist ideals and hate speech with a government partner.”
“While Coalición Canaria and the Partido Popular fight to see who wastes more money in Arrecife, the truth is that when it comes to sowing hatred in the population, they are more united than ever”, adds González. “After Echedey made it clear that he does not want his daughter to share a class with immigrants arriving by boat, and that he lied saying that the health and educational collapse has to do with unaccompanied minors who have survived death on the journey by boat, and who are in the Canary Islands, de León and the most reactionary right have united for a cause”, he concluded.
From the Socialist Group of Arrecife they have recalled that in Lanzarote as of today there are only 200 unaccompanied minor immigrants who are welcomed on the island.
