The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, together with the senator for Lanzarote, Manuel Fajardo Palarea, held a meeting in Madrid with the Minister of Development, José Luis Ábalos, in which they addressed the content of the master plan of the César Manrique-Lanzarote airport and the modification of some of its guidelines.

Corujo and Ábalos shared the need to review, with "care and sensitivity", the lines and aesthetic criteria contemplated in the planned actions. "It must be a facility that offers a response to the needs of the island, modern, safe, sustainable and compatible with its development model. But it is also essential to remind the newcomer that they have just landed in the cradle of César Manrique, that it has the footprint of the genius in every corner," Corujo explained.

Both political representatives analyzed the situation of passenger traffic and the possible alternatives to the existing deficiencies in the pedestrian connection between T1 and T2. "We understand that it should be done in an appropriate manner, through an internal corridor that takes passengers from terminal to terminal, without having to expose them to the inclemency of the weather or the current inconveniences."

Likewise, they agreed in pointing out that "restoring normality to air traffic is essential to boost the recovery of the island's tourism sector." Thus, together with the need to adjust ticket pricing policies, they assessed the possibility of resuming existing connections and opening new routes with other destinations "gradually." In that sense, they indicated that the operation of a connection to unite the César Manrique - Lanzarote and Seville - San Pablo airports is "very advanced."

Maritime route with Cádiz with public service obligation

In another area, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote conveyed to the Minister of Development the need to declare the Arrecife - Cádiz maritime connection with a mandatory public service character.

The president of the First Institution considers that "the route is essential to guarantee the provision of basic necessities and goods, on the one hand, and the social and economic cohesion of the island with the rest of the archipelago and the national territory, on the other."

In this sense, both Corujo and Fajardo stated that "public administrations must put all the mechanisms at our disposal to guarantee adequate standards of mobility to citizens of peripheral areas, who have the right to achieve economic-social development comparable to that enjoyed by the rest of their fellow citizens."
