The mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, congratulates Carmen Arrocha, president of the Association of Families with Oncohematological Diseases of Lanzarote (AFOL) for the Severo Ochoa award received this morning at the IES Agustín Espinosa on the occasion of the celebration of the V Science Week.
In addition to the mayor, the Councilor for Education, Inodelvia Torres, and the island director of Education, Mario Pérez, were present at the event.
Arrocha, who received the award from Coty, former director of the IES Agustín Espinosa and niece of Severo Ochoa, spoke about her professional career and the creation of the Association of Families with Oncohematological Diseases of Lanzarote (Afol). A non-profit association created by herself in 2001 and which has been and continues to be fundamental for the development of cancer treatments.
Eva de Anta also wanted to present the honoree with a detail from the Municipal Corporation and thanked her for her years of dedication in a profession that "is essential to create a society based on values, respect and knowledge. From the public institution it is important to value the effort and dedication of our teachers".
Every year the institute recognizes the scientific work of a conejero or conejera, in this case the teacher Carmen Arrocha has also been chosen. The musician Juanma Padrón delighted those present with several musical themes as the closing of the event.
