The Popular Party will register in all local corporations of Lanzarote a proposal against the Royal Decree that came into force on December 2 and that establishes the obligations of documentary registration and information of natural or legal persons that exercise accommodation activities and rental of motor vehicles.
The party assures that it is a measure that clearly supposes "a burden and an obstacle" for travelers. In addition to an "attack on the privacy and intimacy of citizens." The popular insist that it is contrary to European regulations and that it constitutes "a blow to the tourist competitiveness of our country compared to other competing destinations."
The motion presented by the Popular Party contains the problems involved in the new regulations that "the State Government promised to agree with the affected groups to whom it clearly deceived" because it continued until its entry into force. In this sense, they point, among other aspects, to the "disproportionate administrative burden" that it entails for accommodation establishments to collect up to more than forty data that are requested from customers or the eighty that vehicle rental companies must request, which "fully hinders the daily operation of thousands and thousands of small companies within the chain of the tourism industry."
From the ranks of the PP also emphasize this "tourist big brother" also affects all Spanish citizens who do domestic tourism or who for work or health reasons travel within the country, as they are also obliged to provide a much larger amount of personal data than the current one upon arrival at their accommodation, affecting their customer experience and also violating their privacy.
In addition to requesting the repeal of the Royal Decree, the initiative raises the need to find a consensual solution with the operators that also provides legal guarantees and does not threaten the privacy and intimacy of tourists and clients.
