The Popular Party (PP) in the Arrecife City Council presented a question to the Government Group this Tuesday to report on the possible measures taken to prevent "the abusive increase" in the cadastre, while reminding them that in January they rejected a motion from the PP that proposed a formula that benefited residents when facing the payment of the Real Estate Tax (IBI), "especially considering the delicate economic situation suffered by numerous families with the rise in prices and mortgages."
The spokesperson for the Popular Group, Cándido Reguera, asks if the City Council knows "if all the residents of Arrecife have been notified, in a timely manner, of the new cadastral values of their homes" or if it plans to inform them through the implementation of an office. In addition, he is interested in the index that the City Council intends to establish for the year 2009.
The popular representatives point out that the Cadastral Management presented the new report on the cadastral valuation to the Arrecife City Council, which would come into effect this year. This fact implies an average increase in the cadastral valuation of the homes of the citizens of Arrecife of around 300%. Considering that this increase is derived over ten years, the residents of Arrecife will be forced to pay a contribution receipt (IBI) that is 30% more expensive.
According to the PP, "this excessive increase in the cadastre is a consequence of the fact that the current mayor of Arrecife has not proposed, within the established deadlines, a decrease in the index with which the Real Estate Tax is calculated, which is currently at 0.97%, one of the highest in all of Spain."
The Popular Party proposed at the time that the urban contribution receipt be reduced by 28% in the execution bases of the 2008 Budget, through a subsidy, if the payment is made effective during the voluntary collection period. "Likewise, we also proposed subsidies on the IBI of up to 75% for those large families and those with dependents in their care, and 25% for families that have joined the information society in the current year, with the acquisition of a computer."
