The Titerroy Neighborhood Association has once again criticized the Plan E works in the Arrecife neighborhood and has stated that throughout this year it has detected several "anomalies" in the projects that have been carried out in this area. In addition, according to the president of the group, Ismael Montero, the neighborhood has not yet received the works financed through the first state plan, which had an amount of more than 2 million euros.

Plan E began to be implemented in Titerroy in June 2009. Since that moment, the neighborhood association has detected several "anomalies", according to a statement. In this sense, Montero has stated that due to the execution of these works, two trees have died in Plaza Pío XII, as well as two Canary Island palm trees in Calle Carlos III, near the parking lots. Likewise, the drip irrigation in the Plaza "no longer works", nor does "the security fence" of the Titerroy Pavilion and "there are tiles and curbs that are broken".

"The manholes on the sidewalks are all loose and make a lot of noise, as do the sewer covers," Montero denounced, who sent a letter to the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, to respond to all these damages. In addition, Montero recalled that with the Plan E works, the "complete" paving of Avenida Eugenio Rijo Rocha had been planned, which has not been carried out to date.

The neighborhood group has also considered "excessive" the expenses in paint that have been in the neighborhood. According to what they have indicated, 30,744 euros have been spent in the Parque de Los Pinos, while in the Plaza de la Calle El Vicente the amount has been 23,058 euros, in the Plaza Pío XII 29,463 euros and, finally, in the park in Calle Rafael, 22,350 euros. These projects, which were signed "dated February 13, 2009 by the Technical Office" of the Arrecife City Council, add up to 105,615.78 euros in paint, according to the neighborhood association.

Affected businesses

Montero has also criticized the removal of the stones from Plaza Pío XII "against the will of the residents". In addition, he has lamented that the Arrecife City Council has not informed the residents about "the whereabouts of these stones or what is going to be done with them".

Finally, the neighborhood group has also demanded that the capital City Council not charge the industrial waste tax to the businesses and bars in the neighborhood during this year. Ismael Montero has considered that many establishments have been affected by the Plan E works and, therefore, at the time he demanded compensation from the City Council for "damages".

"Some of the businesses and bars had to close due to the works, some due to lack of water, others due to lack of access. Merchants have accumulated losses since the works began," Montero defended to justify this request.
