The University School of Tourism of Lanzarote (EUTL) and the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa inaugurated this Wednesday the welcome sessions for the 2026-2027 academic year. The meeting was designed to guide and integrate the new students of the Degree in Tourism and the students of the mobility programs.
The opening event was presided over by the Minister of Education of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Ascensión Toledo Hernández, accompanied by the director of the EUTL, Eva Crespo Fontes, and her management team composed of Nereida Cañado Caparrós, Desirée León Alberto, and Noelia Ramón Pérez.
Toledo highlighted that the course begins with a clear idea: “there is no quality tourism without quality training. The tourism model of the island of Lanzarote and La Graciosa is a model that respects the territory, which is why we need professionals who know the territory, the landscape, the cultural traditions, and ultimately, the idiosyncrasy of our islands. And she took the opportunity to recall that “this model is offered by the University School of Tourism of Lanzarote, thanks to the firm commitment of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the excellent faculty of the institution, so that students can develop this differentiated, sustainable, innovative tourism model connected with the Canarian identity, so that Lanzarote and La Graciosa continue to advance in this model of a different island”.
For her part, Eva Crespo highlighted that “we begin this academic year with the utmost enthusiasm, consolidating our vocation of openness to the world through the renewed impulse of the Erasmus program”. The director of the EUTL emphasized that this important training novelty “not only enriches academic excellence in our classrooms, but also provides students with a global and multicultural vision essential for the development of the sector”.
In fact, one of the novelties of this course is the boost to internationalization. Specifically, in this edition, the school receives 9 international students from Italy, Poland, and Slovakia, while 13 local students will pursue part of their studies in destinations such as Peru, Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Croatia.
After the opening, the university students participated in an experience exchange panel in the Computer Room. Subsequently, the first-year students carried out an outdoor integration activity in the exterior courtyard, organized by Professor Doctor Juan Antonio Carreño.
The program for the first day was completed with talks on Tutorial Action, given by Nereida Cañado Caparrós, guided tours of the library, with professionals Rubén Torres Fajardo and María Dolores Santana, and the university digital workshop coordinated by Noelia Ramón Pérez along with the ULPGC technician Pablo Falcón.
To close these sessions, the new students and Erasmus students will carry out a field trip this Thursday, September 10, guided by Professor Pedro Hernández Camacho. The activity will serve to analyze on-site the territorial tourism implementation model of the island.
