The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, considers it inadmissible that the Romería de Los Dolores, the most important and popular in Lanzarote, is not broadcast live on Televisión Canaria on September 18. The regional channel plans to bring the religious fervor of the people of Lanzarote to Canary Islanders between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., but the arrival at the square is almost late at night, so one of the most interesting events would be off the air due to the broadcast of a soccer game. The Autonomic proposal is to broadcast the signal on delay, an alternative that the mayor does not share.

Adapt to the schedule

Machín contacted the top manager of the public station to argue that, if there is a real interest in broadcasting the Romería de Los Dolores, the first thing they should do is adapt to the schedule of the pilgrimage. In addition, the mayor proposed that, just as they plan to broadcast the procession on delay, they can also choose not to broadcast the soccer match live and give priority to the pilgrimage.

"We have soccer games every weekend and Romería de Los Dolores only once a year," said Machín, who also expressed this concern to the president of the Canary Islands, Adán Martín, so that he urges the channel to look for formulas that do not jeopardize the live broadcast of the religious festival.

Applause for the Minister of Tourism

Machín praised Manuel Fajardo Feo, Minister of Tourism of the Canary Islands Government and announcer of Los Dolores 2005, of whom he said that he was the only politician on the Island who deserves recognition for his work in favor of the interests of the municipality of Tinajo.

Fajardo Feo, born in La Vegueta, when he was acting as vice-counselor of Fisheries of the Executive, was the person who decisively bet on the investment in the fishing village of La Santa, Machín stressed. "Nothing to do, for example, with Senator Marcos Hernández, who has not yet obtained investments for Tinajo," he added.

According to the mayor, to choose the announcer of the great festival of Tinajo and Lanzarote, the criterion of choosing a person who has been concerned and has strived to improve the quality of life of the residents of Tinajo prevails.

About the airport

The mayor of Tinajo was quite annoyed with the situation of the aerodrome, especially due to the passivity of the central government to intervene and end the conflict.

Machín recalled that the Spanish Executive controls the management of the air base through the Ministry of Development, and therefore must stand firm and guarantee essential public services. "If Iberia has to leave Lanzarote, let it leave, but we cannot be constantly asking the workers for the favor to suspend the strike," he added.
