The mayor of Teguise and president of the Board of Trustees of the Lanzarote Hospitality School, Juan Pedro Hernández, met this Tuesday with several teachers from the Tahíche Hospitality School, after they held a noisy protest in front of the Town Hall. Hernández explained that the academic year will not begin until all the island's institutions "commit to financially supporting this project."

"With the social needs that the residents of Teguise currently have, the Town Hall that I preside over cannot afford to burden the municipality's taxpayers with the 600,000 euros that an academic year at the school entails," Juan Pedro Hernández stated during the meeting. The mayor has made the opening of the course conditional on the insularization of the school's management: "Students from all the island's municipalities study at the center, and it is not fair that the residents of Teguise have to bear the costs of the education that is imparted," he indicated.

Hernández has assured that he will seek new support from the Cabildo, the town halls, and business owners to solve the start-up of the course. However, the academic secretary of the school, Juan Laguna, has indicated that the mayor has not committed to giving any date on which the course will begin. According to Laguna, Juan Pedro Hernández will wait for the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, to return from the World Travel Market tourism fair in London to meet with him and try to reach a solution.
