"In life, one has to learn from the past." The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, has announced that this year the Los Dolores pilgrimage will be held on Saturday, September 14th and has acknowledged that last year, being held on Sunday, "it didn't have the acceptance it should have". "We have to go back to the origin," he defended this Monday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

In 2012, Saturday coincided with the day of Los Dolores and the City Council decided that the pilgrimage would be held on Sunday. "The participation was not even close, not even 50 percent of other years", Machín admitted.

Therefore, he has assured that he has to be "with the people", and the pilgrimage must be held again on Saturday, "with the usual schedules so that everyone enjoys and has the best time possible". "The pilgrimage has to be on Saturdays, it's more than proven," he insisted.

There are still five years until the day of Los Dolores coincides again on a Saturday. "We have to devise a way to do it a weekend before or a weekend after Los Dolores", he pointed out. Thus, he hopes that the crisis "passes" and allows this possibility, which could not materialize in 2012 due to the "economic circumstances".

Possible return of the autos sacramentales

In addition, the mayor of Tinajo hopes that the autos sacramentales will be restored, since this year marks the 25th anniversary and "this is very important". "With a minimum cost, we want to do it on Monday the 16th, which is a holiday. Try to get the Cabildo to lend us a hand," he indicated.

He also hopes that the Craft Fair will be extended until that Monday the 16th so that visitors and residents can visit it until the Los Dolores festivities are over. "I hope the Cabildo has enough flexibility," Machín pointed out.
