The kings of aeromodelling soar through the skies of Lanzarote

The sky of Lanzarote has been occupied during this weekend by the miniature planes of the pilots who have participated in the second edition of the International Aeromodelling Festival. Seventeen acrobatic planes and models, among which was the largest aeromodelling plane in Spain, which was not much of a model. With a wingspan of 3.70 meters and powered by a 500 cubic centimeter engine, its pilot, Germán Benítez from Gran Canaria, took two years to build it.

The flight of this and other planes was seen by some 1,500 pairs of eyes that rose to the sky following the trajectory of these "mini-planes", directed from the ground by remote control by their pilots, who in most cases are also the builders of these aircraft.

There was no shortage of acrobatics from the helicopter models and the replica of a DC10 commercial plane, although one of the aircraft that aroused the most curiosity was the replica of the F-16 military plane, piloted by José Saigil from Tenerife, powered by a turbine. This was not the only turbine of the day. During the festival, a real airplane turbine could be seen in operation.

Pilots from different parts of the Archipelago participated in the festival, and even English and German pilots, who spend their vacations here and enjoy this hobby, which is very widespread in the Canary Islands. In almost all the islands there are aeromodelling clubs and Lanzarote could not be less.
