The Island Theater of Arrecife will begin its programming on October 14, as confirmed to La Voz by the Minister of Culture of the Cabildo. The season could start with a performance by the singer David de María, although from the Cabildo they affirm that it is still "not closed" and that next week they will announce the entire planned program.
The Island Theater of Arrecife opened its doors last May, two years after the installation was closed after the landing of Operation "Unión", for lacking an opening license. This venue was inaugurated in 2007 but, since then, it was closed and only one act was performed on December 1, 2008. However, the building did not have an opening license, although it did have a show license, due to security deficiencies. Operation "Unión" put this issue on the table, leaving several defendants. Since then, the installation remained completely closed.
The works carried out to adapt the security of the venue, which began last February, allowed to obtain the opening and show license. Thus, after a fire drill that took place on May 19, the Island Theater of Arrecife finally started up.
However, since then, its facilities have only been the scene of some solidarity event, such as the II Solidarity Song Festival, organized by Cáritas Lanzarote and Acción Verapaz, which was held last June. "All theaters start their programming in October and that's how we wanted to do it too", Cabrera explained.
Thus, during this time, work has been done on the elaboration of the theatrical program that will begin on October 14. "Work has also been done on the acquisition of complements and materials that are necessary for some shows, such as, for example, for the ballet".
The Moscow Ballet has already announced that it will be at the Island Theater of Arrecife on December 10, with the play "The Nutcracker", which will be done in two passes, one at 7 p.m. and the other at 10 p.m. However, the Cabildo has not wanted to confirm this performance at the moment.
