The island director of the General State Administration, Pedro Viera, has made a visit to the protected areas of Lanzarote, accompanied by the sergeant of the Seprona, Gloria Moreno, and the lieutenant of the Costa Teguise Post, Alfonso Javier Díaz. During the tour of the Timanfaya National Park, the Famara Natural Park and the El Jable area, the work of SEPRONA on the island has been highlighted, highlighting its fundamental role in the defense of the environment, the conservation of nature and the promotion of a greater ecological sensitivity among citizens.
Seprona, as a specialized unit of the Civil Guard, plays a key role in the protection of Lanzarote's ecosystems, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and fighting against any type of aggression to the natural environment. Its work is essential to preserve the island's biodiversity, a commitment that is reinforced with the surveillance and protection of endangered species, such as the Canary hubara (Chlamydotis undulata fuertaventurae), which inhabits areas of special protection for birds (SPA), such as El Jable. The conservation of this emblematic species is a priority, and its protection responds to the need to guarantee sustainability and ecological balance in these natural spaces.
During the visit, the island director highlighted the importance of promoting a more sustainable development model for the island, promoting policies and measures that guarantee the preservation of the natural environment and the harmonious coexistence between progress and conservation. “Lanzarote is a benchmark in the defense of its landscape and its biodiversity. Our duty is to continue working in the same line, supporting those who ensure its protection and promoting responsible and respectful development with the environment,” said Pedro Viera.
In this context, the figure of César Manrique was remembered, whose vision and tireless struggle for the conservation of Lanzarote laid the foundations for the balance between nature and development. His legacy lives on on the island, inspiring policies and actions that seek to maintain the landscape and ecological identity of Lanzarote, in line with the philosophy of sustainability that he defended.
The visit concluded with a recognition of the work of the Seprona agents and all those who work for the conservation of Lanzarote's natural heritage.
