The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote held this Tuesday has approved the appointment of Yarci Acosta Santana as island director of the Environment, an area managed by Podemos through the non-elected councilor Elena Solís.
Acosta has been serving as delegate in the Canary Islands of the NGO SEO/Birdlife since 2017 and, as highlighted by the Island Corporation, he holds a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Granada and a master's degree in Environmental Management and Audits from the Miguel de Cervantes University of Valladolid.
"Between 2010 and 2017 he lived in West Africa in several stages, mainly in Mauritania and Senegal, where he carried out his professional work as a consultant specialized in the environment, mainly for the International Labor Organization (ILO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, but also for civil society organizations, among others," they add, pointing out that "during those years his work focused on supporting the countries' efforts to integrate the environmental variable into their development processes, with a special focus on sectors with potential for green and blue growth, specifically including the creation of green employment."
They also explain that the new island director of the Environment of the Cabildo "has worked in environmental consulting in the marine and terrestrial environment, both independently and for the public sector."
